How does SC Prep work?
The South Carolina Preparatory Academy's Enrollment FAQs include information about things like attending live classes, tuition (which is free since it's a public charter school), technology needs, socializing opportunities, dual enrollment, AP courses, graduation requirements, support for students with 504/IEP plans, and sports participation. They also discuss the school's classical education style, NCAA approval, and when to enroll. Students must attend classes full-time, and there are no summer school options.
1. How is SC Prep different from other virtual schools?
SC Prep provides a unique, neighborhood feel in a virtual environment. Our attention to detail allows us to build strong relationships with parents and students. We seek to influence students in a way that allows them to fall in love with learning. No other school in the United States offers a virtual, classical model that addresses the various needs of students. SC Prep also focuses on building strong character traits that will serve students for many years to come.
2. Can my child work as his/her own pace?
SC Prep recognizes that students learn at different paces. Because of that, we have developed a partnership with our sister school, SC Prep Leadership School. Students who enroll with us will have the opportunity to attend SC Leadership School and can work as fast or as slow as they desire within teacher set guidelines. This makes SC Prep a great fit for so many students! Love to play travel ball, join SC Prep. Love to spend time on vacation with the family, enroll at SC Prep. Want to graduate early, enroll at SC Prep!
3. What does a typical day look like for a student?
Because our program is flexible, every student is able to craft their own schedule around live lesson times. If a student cannot attend the live lesson, they can access those live lessons later in the week. Here is a sample of a student’s daily schedule:
9:00-9:30 Homeroom
9:30-10:20 SS Live Lesson
10:30-11:15 Math Live lesson
11:15-12:15 Lunch
12:15-1:00 ELA Live Lesson
1:00-1:45 Science Live Lesson
1:45-2:30 Electives
2:30-3:30 Study Hall or Small Group Instruction
4. What supplies does my student need?
Basic supplies such as internet access (hot spots will not work), traditional school supplies, a quiet place to work, and a calendar or planner. Because we are a Title One school, most students qualify for a free Chromebook also!
5. Is my child on the computer the whole day?
Due to the flexibility of courses, students are not required to sit at their computer all day completing work. Students may break throughout the day as needed for appointments, exercise breaks or lunch breaks. SC Prep seeks to expand the learning experience beyond the technology component.
