Academics

1. My student is an athlete and plans to play college sports. Will SC Prep coursework be accepted by the NCAA?

Yes, SC Prep has been approved by NCAA.  Once you create your NCAA account, you should be able to select The SC Preparatory Academy as your school. Currently, SC Leadership is undergoing the NCAA approval process and aims to be accepted by the '25-'26 school year.

2. What time do classes start?

Generally our homeroom classes begin at 9am and school ends at 3:30pm.  Again, we have a lot of flexibility and many of our students work or play sports during the day and then complete their assignments in the evening,

3. How do I check my students' grades?

Each parent will have a Powerschool portal where grades are automatically uploaded.   Parent access allows you to monitor your student’s attendance, grades, and missing assignments.

4. Does my student participate in state assessments such as MAP, SC Ready, and EOCEP assessments?

Because SC Prep is a public school, we are required by law to administer state and district assessments. The MAP assessment is the middle school assessment and is administered online to all middle school students.  All other assessments (EOCEP, SC Ready, SC-ALT, ACCESS) have to be administered in a FACE TO FACE setting.  SC Prep takes great effort in opening up testing facilities across the state to avoid hardships for parents and students as they will have to travel to a testing site.  Our school testing coordinator will provide more information at the end of Semester 1 for EOCEP courses and at the end of Semester 2 for EOCEP and SC Ready assessments.

5. My student has been placed on academic probation. What does that mean?

Academic probation means that for a period of time, teachers, student engagement specialists and administrators will monitor your student to ensure that they are making progress academically at The SC Preparatory Academy.  Should your student need additional support, the team may meet with you to discuss transferring to our sister school, The SC Leadership School to ensure that your student receives personalized support in meeting graduation requirements.

6. How do I change a class on my student’s schedule?
